Detroit Airport tunnel
A moment of glimmer darkness in the airport rave tunnel. I don't know how they got away with this, really.

Orchard near Detroit
I'm not sure what's planted in this dense-packed orchard near Detroit, but by climate I would guess pick-your-own apples.
Circular suburbia, outside Detroit
One almost never sees properly circular suburban layouts: more often, the circles are just little stubs of cul-de-sac. Here on is, however, and a double-ring at that, outside of Detroit.

Multishadow, DFW
Multiple shadow of an external light in the many-lighted working tarmac of the Dallas airport night.

Dead airport parking, Dallas, TX
A massive dead airport in Dallas, now apparently turned into nothing more than an oddly shaped lot for storing cars.

Warehouses, Dallas, TX
Another collection of apparent warehouses, likely older wooden ones rather than modern steel beam construction since they are smaller and their roofs are peaked and not flat.

Santa Maria River, CA
This river has clearly been completely domesticated. While its banks are still allowed to squiggle back and forth, their range is clamped within well defined straight bounds, so that even its wildest storm-driven surges out of dryness cannot breach the walls of humanity's constraints.
Foxen Canyon farm strip
No scrap of viable river plain left to waste: Californians have put to use every reasonably flat portion of this narrow canyon through dry hills.

Offshore platform near Santa Barbara
The sea between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara is dotted with offshore platforms, each a little boxy building for hydrocarbon extraction, sitting in splendid isolation on the deep blue waters.
Anacapa Island, CA
Long, thin, and rugged, Anacapa Island is a wildlife sanctuary just off the California shore amongst the Channel Islands. From the air, I love its beaded chain.

Surfridge, Los Angeles
Once a prosperous community, Surfridge was gradually depopulated and ultimately wiped away by the expansion of the adjoining LAX. Now all that remains is empty scrubby lots and the wending roads that took people to their vanished homes.

Opera house LAX
I don't know what the real story of this Los Angeles terminal is, and I'm not sure I care: to me, it is already the relocated Sydney Opera House.

Airport approach swimming hole, Dallas, TX
Just outside the southern edge of the DFW airport, somebody's swimming hole peeks out through the shady edge of a small pond.
Warehouse template, Dallas, TX
Flat wooden outlines on a concrete pad mark the forms that will rise up to become a warehouse on the Dallas outskirts.

Banded fields, Wisconsin
Strongly banded patterns of planting on the terrain contours of these Wisconsin farms, interacting with shadows of the sinking sun.

Capitol Building, Madison, WI
The state capitol of Wisconsin sits at the middle of a converging star of streets in the middle of Madison.
