Carillon controller, Ghent Belltower, Belgium
The bells on the top of the tower are actually played by this gigantic mechanical brass drum, as tall as a person and studded with little pegs. The pegs are movable, and the official city bellringer arranges them to form a changing set of music to be played over time. Up at the top, the thin metal wires are actuator lines that electrically trigger the bells to ring, another two stories or so above.
