Flowing corn, Oasis, IA

And what were those pipes all pumping? Corn! The dried grains are seen here flowing in a roaring blast to fill up the back of this 18-wheeler truck.

Pipe and wires, Oasis, IA

Zoom in on a pipe for pumping grain, framed by a boxy set of wires, which I believe are used for increasing its structural integrity.

Cinderblock pile, Hawkeye Wildlife Management Area, IA

Rubbled pile of cinderblocks in a wildlife management area, origin and reason for being there unknown. It seemed to me they might have been an intentional piece of fill used in place of stones on the side of the causeway through the swamp. I just like their shapes and shadows, though.

Mystery hemispheres, MacBride Nature Recreation Area, IA

Two lumpy textured off-white hemispheres, found split open on a picnic table. Is it a fungus, a plaster cast, a meringue? I decided not to touch it and so do not know...

Dry spillway, Lake Iowa, Williamsburg, IA

At this time in Autumn, the spillway was nothing but baked dry dirt through the yellow-green banks on either side.

Spillway bridge, Lake Iowa, Williamsburg, IA

Since this is a lake in Iowa, it is, of course, not natural. I'm sure there must be some, but every lake I've seen in my time here is a dammed watercourse of one sort or another. This little wood and metal bridge goes over the concrete spillway in its earthen dam.

Insect tracks, Lake Iowa, Williamsburg, IA

Insect tracks exposed when the bark of this tree was stripped away. I love their wandering oxbow lines.

Wind farm, Marengo, IA

I just love the sight of wind farms on the open fields. Such a picturesque industrial view.

Cable truck, Iowa City

Truck with giant spools of some sort of cable, going down the highway. I love seeing the giant wooden spools like this. When I was a little kid, we had a discarded on in our house as a coffee table, which was one of my favorite things in the world for some reason.
