Alluvial flow, Nevada


No matter how dry it may now be, this spreading banded pattern was almost certainly deposited down by flowing water. It seems to me that a mass up above on the higher mountain---perhaps a now-vanished glacier---must have burst down the hillside, carrying rock and sand to form this alluvial fan, just like one sees playing with streams of water at the beach.
