The Diablo mountains separate the San Francisco bay area from the California's great flat inland agricultural valley. The transition from perfectly tamed farmland and rivers to the rugged wrinkles of the Diablos is often quite stark and sharp, like here where Interstate 5 forms a near-perfect boundary between the two sides.
