Swan gate, Cambridge, UK

This low hole in the river is apparently part of an ancient setup for tricking and trapping swans to eat. St. Johns College at Cambridge has one of those peculiar English monarchial grants of rights, giving the organization the right to eat swans that are otherwise reserved for the royal family. No, I don't know why, but I believe it is at least no longer actively exercised.
